A major factor in the Growth Stones´ popularity could be the fact that plants growing in them do not need to be watered as often as if they were growing in an ordinary container or flowerpot. The lid on the Growth Stone keeps the water from evaporating, and provides a good microclimate for the roots. The Growth Stones, you see, are actually ceramic sculptures doubling as flowerpots; the plant and the Stone combining to form an aesthetically pleasing whole not something you come across every day. Ole Krongaard shapes each and every Growth Stone by hand, making each piece truly unique in shape, texture, and glaze. He uses high-fired clays with some grog in the body, resulting in stoneware with a pleasingly uneven surface structure - almost rock-like in appearance - that suits the living plants it supports very well. Dette lyriske menneske som jeg først stiftede bekendtskab med i 1982, da han var medlem af et af Københavns mest spændende værksteder i Bredgade med faste leverancer til Den Permanente, der var Danmarks center for design og kunsthåndværk på højt niveau, ceramic artists har igennem disse mange år udviklet et smukt og organisk formsprog. Selv siger han ydmygt at hans inspiration kommer fra naturen med afstikkere over den danske maler, grafiker og keramiker Axel Salto (1889-1961) ceramic artists, den amerikansk britiske kvantefysiker David Bohm, (1917-1993) der udgav flere omdiskuterede bøger om bl.a. billedteori og filosofi og den tyske forfatter og teoretiker Goethe (1749-1832), der ikke var keramik kunstner. Axel Salto har i foyeren på Kunstindustrimuseet, en skulptur med titlen: Den tingene iboende kraft. Denne ting, har igennem de sidste mange år sammen med David Bohms teorier om: Den indfoldede og den udfoldede orden været Ole Krongaards igangsætter. Han har eksperimenteret med forskellige former for brosten hvor kimet kraftfuldt bryder igennem ud i lyset og folder sig ud i de smukkeste farver. Keramik kunst af Ole Krongaard.
